CENTRO DE THEATRO DO OPRIMIDO

The Theater of the Oppressed Group of Maputo is a non-profit organization, created in 2003 and officially recognized in 2007. The main goal of this organization is to boost the dynamics of Mozambican culture and spread new alternatives ways of communication.

They use theater as an effective tool for the community training and education, based on the presentation and debate of ideas, promoting the culture of peace and the collective search for solutions to problems that affect the development of the community. This group offers advice to various institutions and organizations who wish to become viable and economic alternatives in Mozambique. These organizations work directly with the beneficiaries and they implement communication strategies that applies the theater techniques as an educational and mobilizing instrument.

They have a solid experience in setting up Participatory Theater shows. Moreover, CTO – Maputo works with social problems in an innovative way, e.g., presentation of these problems in a ludic and didactic format by making use of an effective tool of communication: the Forum Theater.

CTO Maputo is not only busy in more than 17 districts of Maputo, Gaza, Inhambane, Zambezia and Cabo Delgado, but also building many cross-boarders partnerships with other international TO groups, namely with CTO – Rio de Janeiro, Jana Sanskriti from India, CTO – Lisbon and Formaat – the Netherlands. Therefore CTO – Maputo is also part of the E-motive program and have integrate an exchange project with Formaat in 2011, when they visit the Netherlands and vice versa. Now in December 2015 once again they will present us with their visit.
