International Activities

The international work of Formaat has been a constant factor for the last 10 years. We distinguish between three different programs: multiplication & support, exchange and collaboration, platform & stage.

Multiplication and support
The International training program the Power of Dialogue consists of two intensive 5-day trainings, a practice period and an implementation track. POD is a sustainable training program of Participatory Drama and can be adapted to local circumstances.

POD was carried out from 2005-2007 in Moldova, Serbia and Croatia. An adapted training will be offered in Belgium in 2010. Other training schemes were executed in Laos (2004) and South Africa (2001).


Exchange & Collaboration
Theatre of the Oppressed is a form of theatre which was developed in the South. Many groups and organisations there have gathered a wealth of knowledge and experience to offer to the North. Formaat wants to activate this knowledge for the Netherlands.

Outspoken was an exchange project with Jana Sanskriti from India in 2008.

Platform & Stage
The website of the International Theatre of the Oppressed Organization (ITO) is hosted by Formaat. The website www.theatreoftheoppressed.org is a meeting point for all those interested in and working with Theatre of the Oppressed in the world.
